Art Yourself Atelier is delighted to present "Echo From...", an exceptional online solo exhibition featuring the remarkable artistic innovation of rising New York-based artist Jingyao Huang.
Artist's Biography
Jingyao Huang (b. 1995, China) is a visual artist based in New York. She received her BFA Photography and Video at School of Visual Arts in 2019 and her MFA Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in 2023. Jingyao’s practice plays with the conventions and boundaries of photography, material, and the expansion of photography's language into the white cube. She is inspired by the history of photography, which began with the camera obscura and the way painters used it to transfer landscapes onto paper. Seeking to transform photography in today's society by challenging its traditional practices and exploring new possibilities. Photographs are dismantled and reassembled through collages, sculptures, installations, and site-specific projects. Jingyao's works have been exhibited in numerous galleries both nationally and internationally, including in New York, Los Angeles, Guangzhou, and more.
About the Solo Exhibition
The "Echo From..." series is composed of various small sculptures by the artist Jingyao Huang. Using a diary format, Jingyao translates her actions and experiences into tangible sculptures. Each sculpture is named after the period in which it was created. The acrylic pieces are collected from leftover plastic materials found in different places. Jingyao believes these materials already have their own narratives, having gone through various experiences around New York before being found. By translating the language of these objects, Jingyao reflects on her existence and connections in society. Each sculpture in this series has its own story, documenting Jingyao's thoughts and understanding of memories over a certain period. These sculptures break the spatial limitations of photographic images, turning them into tangible memory carriers that share Jingyao's daily life.
