Intro

Jan Herdlicka
[Berlin, Germany]

Art Yourself Atelier is pleased to present 'Arcadian Cabinet II: Eerie Stars', a distinctive online solo exhibition showcasing the profound artistic innovation of Jan Herdlicka, an ascending artist from Germany.

This marks Jan's sophomore exhibition with Art Yourself Atelier. Explore his debut showcase 'Arcadian Cabinet I' here.

About the Solo Exhibition

In a dreamy manner, Jan's work focuses on the ever-evolving interrelations of human and nonhuman agencies from personal to planetary scales. The influences range from sci-fi to ecology, utopian and dystopian conceptions such as terraforming, technosphere or the myths of pre-astronautics, to the arts and literature of dark romanticism and magical realism. Within these thematic fields, the artistic approaches are decisively cross-medial and include various techniques such as photography, sculpture, collage, and mixed media.

Following last year's Arcadian Cabinet I, this year's work period saw an opening towards ceramics, paralleled with a revisiting of analogue photographic techniques. These came together under the strong focus on a skyward perspective with a wide range of possible implications. From skies as mirrors of apocalyptic signs with twisted horizons and eerie multiplicities of central stars coming from above and beyond, to spacemen trapped in a spiderweb of chains amidst the Polish undergrowth, to technoid flying vehicles coming from archaic and/or childish imaginations, a new derivative within the artist's body of work seems to have introduced itself.
