Artist's Biography
Heleen Haijtema is an intuitive photographer who experiments with both still and moving images. Her images are a combination of staged photography and coincidence with a preference for slightly absurd situations. Heleen studied Film & Video art in Antwerp (Belgium). She has started her career as a conceptual photographer in 2012 and has been exhibiting since 2014.
About the Solo Exhibition
'HOME SCULPTURES' / 2020
An artist-in-residence was planned last spring. Unfortunately this was canceled due to covid-19 and like many others Heleen works at home ever since. As an alternative Heleen declares her house as a residency workspace and make work within the four walls of her house. She make sculptures with everything that is available and use the accidental sunlight as a flash lamp. She revalues ordinary objects to an esthetic content. These are small installations, light-hearted. In particular not too serious. Enlightened. The world has enough problems to deal with right now.
'CAMOUFLAGE' / 2016-2020
Ongoing series about the longing to be invisible. To hide or to blend in.
'SRV/VHDG' / 2017-2019
Ongoing series campaign images for artist-in-residence SRV.
'I ♡ MAKKUM / 2017
This series shows touristic attractions where the subject does not
necessarily reflect the most attractive features of a place, but instead focuses on the backside of a place that appears timeless.
